Esteemed Broadway actor, innovative cross genre artist, television and film aficionado, voiceover expert - just a few of the accolades that are bestowed upon one L. Steven Taylor, after over 27 years of professional experience in the entertainment and media industries. As such an accomplished industry veteran, L. Steven is a multifaceted powerhouse, who holds the title as the longest running Mufasa in history in Disney's The Lion King on Broadway. This honor only begins to scratch the surface of a career that has spanned across a multitude of platforms, from the immersive stages of Broadway to the exciting platforms of the Screen and Recording Arts.
A proud member of The Screen Actors Guild, The American Film, Television and Radio Association and the Actor’s Equity Association, L. Steven is a familiar face on a plethora of television and film productions and recently starred on Law and Order SVU to critical acclaim as well as guest starred on various popular TV shows such as FBI: Most Wanted, The Good Fight, Blue Bloods, Madam Secretary, Person of Interest, Legacies, NCIS New Orleans. He has also been featured as a series regular on The Electric Company reboot, the film Baby Blue on BET and as Dan in the film, “Then Came You”. He can currently be seen on stage as Mufasa in the Lion King as well as the host for Musical Explorers at Carnegie Hall.
As an accomplished voice over actor, his voice can be heard on ads for McDonalds, The NFL, The Food Network, Nickelodeon, SpongeBob, Geiko, Grand Theft Auto and as the narrator on over 50 audio books.
L. Steven grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana where he taught Pre-K before taking the plunge and pursuing theater as a professional career. After transitioning into a life as a fulltime artist, he served as the Resident Choreographer for the American Cabaret Theater where he combined his love of teaching and the joy of the arts to spearhead a theater program for historically underserved youth, teaching them how to use the arts as a means to make positive changes in their lives.
His talents then took him to Seattle where in addition to serving as Resident Choreographer of Harlequin productions in Olympia, Washington , he starred in productions at theaters such as Capital Playhouse, The 5th Avenue, The Village and Intiman.
Today, he is a proud New Yorker who works closely as a fundraising advocate for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and has raised over 100 thousand dollars for the organization through his groundbreaking efforts. His advocacy for Arts Education and his work in Social Justice earned him The Distinguished Public Service Award from the City of Queens awarded by Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer.
L. Steven is an avid Spoken Word Artist and has penned the Spoken Word series: Words of Perspective, which turns social media exchanges into short films with Spoken Word Poetry as the vehicle that drives each narrative.
This year he will be releasing the debut book in his new Children's Book series: "Sammy and his Lion" which will teach children how to summon their "inner lion" as a metaphor for finding the courage to deal with topics such as bullying, standing up for others, going to the dentist, fear of differences in people and experiences etc. as well as how to develop self confidence and self awareness.
